Terengganu’s haunted school

Author’s Note : The following story was told to me by my colleague who used to stay at the dormitories in her school back when she was studying in Terengganu.

I’m always a small hearted person when it comes to the supernatural world. When you’ve stayed at school dormitories long enough, you will also hear or perhaps even have a fair share of supernaturally unexplainable experiences. The one that I experienced most vivid was one night before term break.

You see, I stay in those 4 people sharing room and everyone was preparing to sleep so the next day we wake up earlier to leave for our homes. The usual routine I had with my room mate, Siti, was visiting the washroom to cleanup ourselves before bedtime. One thing was to brush teeth and another reason was I didn’t want to be wakening in the middle of the night with a toilet urge. The dormitory corridors always spooked me out and my room was unfortunately located at the far side of the right when the washroom was located right in the middle of the floor, so I had to walk across a whole lot of dorms before reaching the washroom. So that night wasn’t so different. As me and Siti left the room, another 2 of my room mates, Shu & Fiza, prepared for bed.

When me and Siti reached the washroom, we noticed the last cubicle was occupied by someone. We thought of nothing and continued to prepare our own business of washing up and brushing our teeth. After some 5 minutes of washing up, the last cubicle door opened and out stepped Shu. Initially we didn’t really realize anything as we were quite occupied. Siti went on to greet Shu asking her, “Hey Shu, apsal cepat je sampai? Bila you masuk tandas? Tak nampak pun tadi? Kan bila kita keluar tu, engkau masih dalam pakaian tidur nak masuk tidur?” (Hey Shu, when did you reached the washroom? I didn’t see you just now going in because when we left, you were still in your pajamas preparing for bed) but Shu did not reply and walked out of the washroom. Me and Siti were of course puzzled because Shu was not the rude kind of person. Ignoring her, both of us quickly kept away our toiletries and walked out towards our dorm.

When we exited the washroom, we were quite surprise that Shu was walking the opposite direction of our dorm instead of walking towards our dorm. At that point, it suddenly hit me and Siti that there was something amiss and we quicken our footsteps to the dorm. Reaching the dorm, we saw Shu fast asleep while Fiza was just doing some last minute packing. Both of us were shocked and asked Fiza if Shu ever left the room but Fiza insisted that Shu was already long fast asleep. Til today me and Siti could not explain who did we see on that very night.

Ever heard of a doppleganger. its a tangible double of a living person in fiction, folklore, and popular culture that typically represents evil. In the vernacular, the word doppelgänger has come to refer to any double or look-alike of a person. The word also is used to describe the sensation of having glimpsed oneself in peripheral vision, in a position where there is no chance that it could have been a reflection. Doppelgängers often are perceived as a sinister form of bilocation and generally regarded as harbingers of bad luck. In some traditions, a doppelgänger seen by a person’s friends or relatives portends illness or danger, while seeing one’s own doppelgänger is an omen of death.

Based on the above definition, did any illness or danger followed suit? Luckily, yr fren Shu was sleeping & did not see her own doppleganger. otherwise, it would mean RIP for her.
