This story is contributed by Pisang

This story was told by my brother’s friend to my brother. My brother then told me this story and here’s how it goes.

He works in East Coast at one of the companies in Kelantan but his home town is in Penang. His girlfriend on the other hand, lives in Kedah so he would travel back to his home town in Penang every week and on the way back, he would stay overnight at his girlfriend’s house.

Every week when he would head back home, he always and always would choose the East And West road. It’s not very long drive, only 2 hours away. When come Thursday, he would pack up his shirts and put them in his car so that after work he could start his journey back home. Note that in Kelantan, Friday’s a public holiday.

Authors Note : Do you ever wonder why people usually burn offerings in front of their houses every year during the Hungry Ghost Festival? For further read, you can refer to one article I wrote before here. But did they tell you that once you start to burning offerings, that you should continue doing it every year and it has to be in a proper manner? Here’s a story about a lady who learnt it the hard way.

My friend just recently got married and moved into a new house together with her husband. This year, it was slightly different not only because it was a new environment, new family and new house to begin with. But it everything seemed new to her so it was no surprise when it came to Hungry Ghost Festival, that she had to learn to burn offerings in front of her house.

On that fateful day, she was rushing out for dinner and thought of following the yearly tradition that her mother had passed on to her and prepared the hell notes, candles and some sweets placed nicely in front of her house. After burning some hell notes, her husband rushed her to hurry up with the process for they have dinner that night and thinking that she is done, my friend left the pile of ashes.

This story is a courtesy from Siti

This happened a few years back. It happened in my hometown at Batu Pahat, Johor. I was actually taking a break after graduation and staying at home seemed like the perfect choice as I was always away staying at the hostel studying. During that time my grandmother’s sister’s daughter had just married a man from Kedah. They then built a simple house next to their mother’s house which is situated just opposite of my parents house. The house is such a way build that the back of my house is facing the front porch of their house.

One evening around 6.45pm as the surrounding was getting quite darker, I went to the back of the house to gather the clothes where my mother would put up the washed clothes to to be dried. There was still light and I could swear that my eyes were not playing tricks on me. I was standing at the placed marked “x” when at first I notice a small naked boy running back and forth their porch. The little boy was bald and had no clothes on, naked it seems. As I was busy picking the dried clothes, I wonder to myself if it was their son. But then they’ve just gotten married and I thought I remembered my mother telling me that the man was a bachelor.
